Look on the back of the coin to see if there's a small mint mark letter. It may be blank or there may be a D or O.

Numismedia lists the following approximate retail values as of 03/2010:

No mint mark (Philadelphia):

Very worn condition - $2

Moderately worn - $5

Slightly worn - $7

Almost no wear - $61

Uncirculated - $103 to $3,970 depending on quality

"D" mint mark (Denver):

Very worn condition - $4

Moderately worn - $8

Slightly worn - $15

Almost no wear - $78

Uncirculated - $185 to $5,750

"O" mint mark (New Orleans):

Very worn condition - $7

Moderately worn - $47

Slightly worn - $64

Almost no wear - $152

Uncirculated - $220 to $4,320

"S" mint mark (San Francisco):

Very worn condition - $5

Moderately worn - $14

Slightly worn - $21

Almost no wear - $125

Uncirculated - $240 to $10,210

1906 is not a rare date for Barber dimes. In average circulated condition, it's worth about a dollar. If the LIBERTY in the headband is complete and clearly readable, it's worth about $5.00

Assuming the coin is circulated and has no mintmark, the 1916 Barber dime is another common Philadelphia Mint issue coin. For an accurate assessment of value the coin needs to be seen and graded. In general retail values for low grade coins are $3.00-$5.00, better grade are $10.00-$30.00 and coins showing almost no wear run from $60.00-$85.00. Values are a market average and only for coins in collectible condition, coins that are bent, corroded, scratched, used as jewelery or have been cleaned have far less value if any to a collector or dealer
