Best Answer

If it has a red seal, $6 to $10 depending on condition.

If it has a green seal, $8 to $20.

The higher number is for bills with only slight wear. The lower is for bills that clearly have been circulated.

"F" is the highest series letter for 1928 $2 bills, and only for those issued as United States Notes.

If your bill has a green seal, you may be looking at the Federal Reserve District letter instead of the series letter which would be by the date.

There's more information at the question "What is the value of a 1928 US 5 dollar bill?".

There were 2 series of 1928 $5 bills printed but 1928-F was only issued as a United States Note with a red seal and serial numbers.

If your bill has a green seal, F is the Federal Reserve District and not a series letter; please check the series letter next to the date and post a new, separate question.

As of 02/2013 a circulated one would retail for $8 to $13, while an uncirculated specimen would be about 4 times as valuable. A star in the serial number would add to those amounts.

If it has been circulated then yes about $5. As stated if Uncirculated / Crisp then you could add a zero to that 5.

Note if it is a Red or Blue seal. Check for a star in the serial number or a letter after the series date. Anything unusual, even a printing flaw can change the value.

Search the internet specifically for the bill, denomination and list the characteristics. You could look for a reputable dealer (well as long as you don't take the first person's word nor let the bill out of your sight any dealer with a shop).

There were two types of bill with that date and series letter. As of 11/2011 approximate prices are:

Red seal United States Note:

Circulated: $6 to $10 depending on the bill's condition

Uncirculated: $100

Green seal Federal Reserve Note:

Circulated: $8 to $35 depending on the bill's condition

Uncirculated: $80 to $100 again depending on condition

Serial Numbers

A bill's serial number is a counter and a security feature. In most cases it doesn't affect a bill's value or help to identify it. Some collectors specialize in bills with low serial numbers (e.g. 00000005) or unusual patterns (12344321) so these can bring above-average prices.

DISCLAIMER: The values quoted are market averages as of the date shown, but may be different for an individual bill due to variations in quality and other factors. Also the wholesale (buying) price of a bill will be less than the selling (retail) price. A reputable currency dealer will be able to give a more accurate valuation based on an in-person inspection.
