There are many different varieties of $10 bills in the 1928 series. Check to see if there's a small letter next to the date, and look at the Federal Reserve Seal to see which Federal Reserve District distributed the bill. As of 05/2014 approximate prices are:

No letter next to the date:

Circulated: $20 to $45 depending on the bill's condition

Uncirculated: $100

"A" next to the date, Minneapolis District:

Circulated: $450 to $900

Uncirculated: $2000

"A" next to the date, any other district:

Circulated: $30 to $75

Uncirculated: $200

"B" next to the date:

Circulated: $15 to $30

Uncirculated: $75

"C" next to the date, Cleveland District:

Circulated: $250 to $450

Uncirculated: $1000

"C" next to the date, Richmond District:

Circulated: $1000 to $4500

Uncirculated: $8000 or more

Serial Numbers

A bill's serial number is a counter and a security feature. In most cases it doesn't affect a bill's value or help to identify it. Some collectors specialize in bills with low serial numbers (e.g. 00000005) or unusual patterns (12344321) so these can bring above-average prices.
