In worn condition it's only worth face value. In better shape it might retail for up to $70. A nice uncirculated one could bring $100.

Despite their age, most series-1950 $50 bills are not scarce. $50 was a considerable amount of money in the 1950s so (relatively) high-denomination bills didn't see a lot of circulation.

1950 E is the most valuable series letter for the 1950 series. As of 01/2014 approximate prices are:

Circulated: $75 to $150 depending on the bill's condition

Uncirculated: $500 or more.

Serial Numbers

A bill's serial number is a counter and a security feature. In most cases it doesn't affect a bill's value or help to identify it. Some collectors specialize in bills with low serial numbers (e.g. 00000005) or unusual patterns (12344321) so these can bring above-average prices.

DISCLAIMER: The values quoted are market averages as of the date shown, but may be different for an individual bill due to variations in quality and other factors. Also the wholesale (buying) price of a bill will be less than the selling (retail) price. A reputable currency dealer will be able to give a more accurate valuation based on an in-person inspection.

There was never a 1950 G US $50 bill. The highest series letter, which appears by the date, was E. The "I" is almost certainly the letter code for the Minneapolis Federal Reserve District that distributed the bill; that's not the same as the series letter.

Check to see what letter is next to the date. It could be blank or A to E. Then click on the Related Question for more details.

"E" is the highest series letter on 1950 $50 bills. You're probably looking at the Federal Reserve District code instead of the series letter, which would be next to the date.
