You are asking about a 2 1/2 Shilling coin (KM#30) from South Africa. The coin is 32.3mm in diameter, weighs 14.14 grams and is 80% silver, giving it an ASW (Actual Silver Weight) of 0.3637 troy ounces. The obverse (front) of the coin has an image of King George VI of Great Britain and the words "GEORGIVS VI REX IMPERATOR" (Latin for "George the Sixth, King and Emperor"). The reverse (back) of the coin has a large shield splitting the date (that is, "19" is to the left of the shield and "37" is to the right of it), with the words "South Africa" and "SUID-AFRIKA" (Afrikaans for "South Africa"), separated by a rosette, above the shield and the denomination, "2 1/2 SHILLINGS" below it. 3,180,000 of these coins were produced in 1942.
With silver currently (as of April 5, 2010) at $18.10 per troy ounce, the "melt value" of this coin is about US$6.58. Numismatically (according to the Standard Catalog of World Coins), an example is probably worth about US$8 in Extremely Fine condition and US$20 in Uncirculated condition.
You are asking about a 1952 Two Shilling coin (KM#38.2) from South Africa. The front of the coin has the words "GEORGIVS SEXTUS REX" (Latin for "George the Sixth, King") with a portrait, and the back reads "SUID AFRIKA - 1952 - SOUTH AFRICA" around a central sheild, with "2s" (an abbreviation for "Two Shillings") below. It measures 28.3mm in diameter and weighs 11.31 grams. It is 50% silver, giving it an ASW (Actual Silver Weight) of 0.1818 troy ounces and a melt value (as of March 15, 2011, with silver at $34.30 per troy ounce) of US$6.24. According to the Standard Catalog of World Coins, 3,570,000 of such coins were produced for circulation in 1952, and an example is worth US$3.50 in Extremely Fine condition, and US$6.50 in Uncirculated condition. 16,000 were also produced in proof condition for collectors - they are valued at US$8.00 each.
5 dollars.
You are asking about a 1 Penny coin from South Africa, most likely dated between 1931 and 1960. Its value would depend on the year and condition, but probably ranges between a few US cents (in circulated condition) and a few US dollars (in uncirculated condition).

Parts of South Africa were colonies from 1652 to 1910 (first controlled by the Dutch, then the British). South Africa was a British Dominion from 1910 to 1931.
I think you mean "Does South Africa have a Colony". South Africa did at one time control another nation in Africa. In 1915, during WWI, the South African Army (which was at that time a British Dominion) captured the German colony of South-West Africa. After the war ended the South African government was granted permission to rule South-West Africa as a "Mandate". This meant that they controlled South-West Africa much like a colony, but they had to abide by rules put in place by the League of Nations. When South Africa itself became completely self-governing in 1931 it gained even more control over South-West Africa, and in 1990 it granted South-West Africa independence as Namibia.
South Africa was a colony of the British empire for many years but has been independent since 1931
There was no 2 1/2 pence coin produced for South Africa in 1931. There was a South African 2 1/2 Shilling coin dated 1931, and a South African 2 1/2 cent coin from 1961 to 1964 and from 1997 onward.
It would be rare, but not very rare. Lots of people would still have them. The Eireann 1931 "Proof" Shilling is quite rare.
A 1931 Bank of New Zealand Ten Shilling note (serial C), in very good condition, might fetch anything up to $475 NZD.A reputable coin dealer will be able to give a more accurate valuation.
