This gun was made in 1964. The gold is not factory inlay. Somebody did a job on the receiver. Gold filler was available (not real gold) for many years for the home gunsmith. If the engraving pattern is the same as other Auto 5's, then this could be what you have. Without seeing the gun, then it's impossible to determine what kind of custom job you have. Value is too difficult to be accurate without seeing the gun. Condition which includes the amount of original finish and original configuration will determine value. Auto 5's with recoil pads (other than Mag 12's) poly-chokes and compensators will reduce value. Recommend taking it to a gun shop for appraisal.
A few hundred to a few thousand depending on if the engraving is factory.

What is the value of a 12 gauge Browning shotgun serial J68824?
No way to value a serial number by itself. Need a detailed description of all markings, action type, finish, overall condition, accessories, box, papers, engraving, etc..
1985 Value will depend on claiber, barrel length, engraving (if any), box, papers, etc.. Range from a 200-700 USD.
No way to value with just the serial number. Call Browning for the age.
just wanting to know the value of a browning shotgun serial # 37896
This gun was made in 1938. If engraving is of hunting scenes, then it is a grade 3. Otherwise you have a grade 1 with scroll engraving. Value is too vast to quote without inspecting. Take it to a gun shop for appraisal. auto5man
