I can't speak to the value of the 16 gauge, but in August of 2005 I purchased a very similar gun in the 20 gauge and was happy to pay 600 for it. For me there was some personal value.
The savage model 755A was different than the standard model 755 shotgun,because it had engraving,were the standard model did not.So the A stands for the engraved model.
It was made in Westfield, Mass. around 1968. It was the first of these to have a 3" chamber.
We have one in idaho. very good condition----

Your Western Field model SB-312 double barrel shotgun was made for Montgomery Wards(western field) by the savage arms company.The Savage model 540D shotgun is the same shotgun as yours.If you go to the savage web site they may have more info on this model?
As for the age of the shotgun, my father purchased his new, roughly 44 years ago. Although not idectical to the gun in question. His is a 12 gague/dbl/2.75"chamber/FOX Savage Arms USA Westfield Mass Model B/ pat. #3,005,263. I would ceartinaly like to know the value of these firearms as well?
