* Rifle was made by marlin for sears in the late 50s worth between 50 and 100 dollars * According to oldguns.net #6052 The J.C. Higgins model#103.18 22cal. is worth $45-$75. (I would have thought more). It was manufactured by Marlin from 1936 to 1941 as their model 100. Also it is suggested that because this firearm bears the Sears brand name instead of Marlin will make it more difficult to sell. I myself have one of these bought new in the early 1950's for my father, it still shoots very good for a 22 short. * Correction to previous answer it was bought new from Sears in Ga. in 1940 for $8.00 and my grandfather still had the sales receipt on till his death in 1985. Old guns are still better with REAL wood stocks. * Well, my J C Higgins 103.18 .22 rifle was at the family farm near Marietta for 30 years as the plinker of choice for all the visiting kids, grandkids, and ggkids - and when I retrieved it 15 years ago, it was in terrible shape and wouldn't fire - springs rusted, stock dinged, and missing part of the sights. I was crushed, but thank God but the bore was still OK. The rifle cost $12 from the Sears Christmas catalog in 1951 when I was 11. It was my constant after-school companion. I could make a 51 cent box of shorts last a month. After a COMPLETE dis-assembly, I spent 2 weeks fine steel-wooling all the bluing and rust off of it down to bare metal, and refinishing the stock. I then spent $200 to have it professionally prepared, re-blued, and highly buffed to its original appearance, and another $50 in rare gun parts so I could replace the sights and the hammer and rebound springs - it now works and shoots perfectly again. In 1951, it was the most prized of all (the only one then) of my material possesions - and it still is. My 10 year old grandson and I shoot it from time to time and my hands still know every curve of that rifle. Every sound of operating the bolt and cocking the hammer brings forth a flood of vivid boyhood memories. How much is a J C Higgins 103.18 worth? Mine is priceless.
