Made for Sears Roebuck by Stevens. There may be a model number on the right side of the receiver (most likely 5000, 5100, or 311) or a Sears product number on the barrel (101.6?) which could give an approximate date.
You may have to break the shotgun down in to the barrel section and the receiver section first.Look under the barrel section on the flat just ahead of the lug for the serial number.
That patent date is on several models of Stevens shotguns. Ranger was a trade name sold by Montgomery Ward. It was most likely made sometime between 1920 and 1945.
