That would be a Model 12-C, prior to when they marked the receiver Model 12 not the A,B,C, or CS. It was also made pretty late in 1914, probably a December gun. They didn't start date coding until 1921 so the month is based on serial/production for the year.
It sounds like you have a very early model 722 that was made in 1948.These rifles were made from 1948-1962.Remington assigned the serial number range between 11,000-430,000. The total production figures between those years were 118,000 rifles. I have one myself that was made in 1954 and is chambered in 300 savage. no, a rife shoots 1 projectile and the barrel has spiral grooves in it which are known as rifling. A shotgun shoots multiple projectiles at a time, and the barrel is smooth.
