These tokens made in One Penny and Halfpenny denominations for SMITH.PEATE & CO - GROCERS, TEA DEALERS, WINE MERCHANTS of 258 & 260 GEORGE ST SYDNEY, by the Heaton Mint in Birmingham in 1856.

The reverse shows a robed and blindfolded woman with raised scales in one hand and a lowered cornucopia in the other. In the background is water and a sailing ship.

The date 1836 indicates the date of establishment of the business.

Depending on the variety, the One Penny token uncirculated and in mint condition, could get anything from $400 to 1,100 AUD. If it has been circulated but still in good condition, it might fetch anything from $35 to $600 AUD.

Depending on the variety, the Halfpenny token uncirculated and in mint condition, could get anything from $200 to 1,500 AUD. If it has been circulated but still in good condition, it might fetch anything from $15 to $700 AUD.

A reputable coin dealer will be able to give a more accurate valuation.

What is the value of an 1835 British Halfpenny?

The Royal Mint produced no Halfpenny coins from 1835 to 1836 inclusive. Due to Britains ongoing expenses with various wars in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, there were very few silver or copper coins minted, subsequently there were a great many privately minted tokens and counterfeit coins produced. To get an estimate of value on a privately minted token, you need to provide the details of the inscription on the token.
