I must admit that I am a little confused as to what model of Smith and Wesson you have. The Model 12 Smith&Wesson which I have is a airweight model with a Serial number prefix of the letter C.All model 10,11,12,45,and Aircrewman were assigned a letter C prefix to their serial numbers.these were also 6 shot revolvers. The serial number J459,628 was assigned to the block of serial numbers for the S&W models 36,37,38,49,and 50.This serial number also identifies that your revolver was made between 1976-1977.All of these models were of a 5 shot configuration.I hope this helps clear up some of the confusion that you may have about your Smith and Wesson revolver.
