The only Crown (Five Shilling) coins minted in Australia were the 1937 and 1938 Crowns which were round.

The only square coins minted in Australia were copper/nickel coins of Halfpenny and Penny denominations in 1919, 1920 and 1921 as trial patterns and were never put into circulation. They all featured a kookaburra on the reverse.

The 1920 square coins were only ever minted in Penny and Halfpenny denominations and were never released into circulation. They were minted as a "Trial Pattern" for a smaller and lighter coin and given to the politicians of the day to test reaction and acceptance.

The square coinage was never proceeded with due to problems with vending machines.

The only other square Australian coin to be minted was a Threepence for Internment Camp use during World War 1 and were minted in 1914, 1915 and 1916.
