The costal groove (on an axolotl) is located on the flaps on the side of an axolotl's body.
Caliber typically refers to the maximum diameter of a gun's barrel in hundredths of an inch. Sometimes a stated caliber (like .38 Special) is not equal to its actual caliber (.357 caliber). This is due to several reasons: 1- Marketing, 2- Measuring barrel diameter land to land, 3- Measuring barrel diameter groove to groove. 4- Measuring diameter of the chamber (brass casing diameter). Usually when a firearm uses millimeter instead of caliber, it tends to be a more accurate description of the projectile's diameter.

Given the limited information in your question I can only give a general reply. The caliber is the diameter of the rifle groove to groove in thousands of inches. So the difference would be .450" - .308" which equals .142". There are a lot of specified rounds of ammunition that use .308 and .450 bullets. In general the larger caliber bullet would also be more powerful.

That is a very good question and leads to some discrepancy between firearm manufacturers. Since most modern weapons have rifled barrels--spiral grooves cut into the barrel to impart spin to the projectile, how one measures caliber can vary. I'm told that American manufacturers measure the maximum diameter, that is from the depths of one rifling groove to the depths of the groove 180' opposite of it. European manufacturers tend to measure the minimal distance, from the top of a land (the opposite of the groove), 180' across to the top of the land. So the exact same barrel might be measured as 7.65mm in the US, while in Britain, its measured as 7.62mm.
