A metal what? Oh!?! You mean a Medal as in an award. It depends on the several factors. You should identify the MEDAL and describe it. Does it have the soldier's name engraved on it? Does the Medal include the Ribbon that it is hung from? Are both in good shape?

Five dollars..
The last silver certificates were dated 1957 and there are no US bills dated 1965. By 1965 the U.S. had stopped making coins from silver and discontinued the policy of redeeming silver certificates for metal.
Feel free to spend any that are dated 1971 or later, but those with earlier dates contain either 40% or 90% silver so they could be sold to a metal dealer for much more than their face value. Currently those with 40% silver have a metal value of around $4.50 and those with 90% have a metal value of around $11.
what is the value of the German mark coin with horse on back dated 1923
Yes. US dimes, quarters, and half dollars dated 1964 and earlier, as well as silver dollars dated 1935 and earlier, are made of an alloy of 90% silver and 10% copper. A 90% silver quarter contains about 0.18 of a troy ounce of silver, and its value as scrap metal will change along with precious metal prices.

In US dollars it has a melt value of $1.37. It is illegal to melt these coins for the metal they contain.
