Uh, please don't assume that every woman appearing on a US coin is Susan B. Anthony! The woman pictured on your coin is Miss Liberty, as in "Statue of ..."

The Susan B. Anthony dollar was produced in 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1999. She could never have been on a dollar coin from the 1880s because

(1) she was very much alive at the time and

(2) she was despised by the male-dominated power structure due to her support of equal rights.

Please see the question "What is the value of an 1889 US silver dollar?" for more information.

Don't assume that every woman on a US coin is Susan B. Anthony. She was only depicted on copper-nickel dollars minted in 1978-81 and 1999. Your coin has an image of Miss Liberty, as in "Statue of ..."!

If it's large (38 mm in diameter) it could be one of two coins:

> If it has the word PEACE on the back you have what's called a Peace dollar.

> If it has an eagle with spread wings on the back and is dated 1921, you have what's called a Morgan dollar.

If so, post a new question with the coin's exact date and which type it is.

??? The Anthony dollar was not minted until 1979.

Don't assume that every woman on a coin is Susan B. Anthony. Your coin has a picture of Miss Liberty, as in "Statue of ..." Among other things, SBA was very much alive in 1879 so legally she couldn't be depicted on a coin. Second, she was widely reviled for her feminist views so the chances that the male-dominated society of the late 19th century would honor her with a coin are somewhat less than zero. Finally, Miss Liberty is much less severe-looking, lol.

Your coin has an image of Miss Liberty, as in "Statue of ..."! It's usually called a Morgan dollar after its designer. There's more information at the question"What is the value of an 1891 US silver dollar?".

If you think about it for a few seconds, Anthony was very much alive in 1891 and women still didn't even have the right to vote. The chances she'd be honored on a major coin were zero.

Please don't assume that every woman on a US coin is Susan B. Anthony! Your coin has a picture of Miss Liberty, as in "Statue of ..." There's more information at the Related Question.

Ms. Anthony was very much alive in 1880 so by law she couldn't be depicted on a coin. Plus she was extremely unpopular due to her feminist views, so she never would have been honored in by the government of 1880 that was composed entirely of men.

It's considered to be an altered coin and has no numismatic value above face ($1).

It contains no silver, they are common, have nearly no collector demand even in proof condition. And unless the coin is a proof, it is worth $1.

Try again. The '21 silver dollar has an image of Liberty and is commonly called a Morgan dollar (named for the designer). Anthony didn't appear on the dollar coin until 1979.
