According to the 2009 Whitman "The official Red Book" the value of an 1881 gold octagonal half-dollar is between $170 and $2400 depending on what you have, there are several versions. I have an uncirculated large Indian head with just the value in the wreath and the value is $600. Hope this helps..
This coin is not a government issue coin and it really needs to be seen for an assessment. Even if it is authentic the values are not large around $125.00 at most. Also the question does not give enough information. What design is on the obverse of the coin and the reverse. Is the denomination a fraction or spelled out.FYI if there is a bear on the reverse of the coins it's a modern replica with no value at all.
Fractional gold coins are not US Mint issue but were privately minted and the dates range from 1852-1883, some are round and others are octagonal. Coins with a bear on them regardless of date are modern replicas that have no or very little value, more than 500 types are known so the coin must be seen for a accurate assessment. Please take it to a dealer for a better idea of value.
whatz the value of a 1857 California Gold Octagonal Half Dollar and how much does it weigh ....?
It's not a half cent but a half dollar, a brief description of the obverse and reverse of the coin is needed, please post new question with more information.
it depends on condition of the coin
Could you please check that date? The half cent was discontinued in 1857 so there are no genuine 1881 half cents.
Great - you have a rare Copper-Nickel 3 Cent piece - a 1881 coin in fine condition is worth: $30.00.
Please check again and post a new question. Indian Head nickels were minted from 1913 to 1938.If you have an 1881 penny (cent) there's more information at the Related Question.
There's no such coin. Wheat cents were made from 1909 to 1958. If your coin has an Indian head design, it's an Indian head cent, not a wheat cent.
The III is its value. Its called a three cent nickel because its face value is three cents and its primary composition is Nickel. Depending on its condition it usually sells for $15 - $25. If its uncirculated it can sell in the hundreds of dollars.
one cent
In French, 1881 is said as "mille huit cent quatre-vingt-un."
Value of 1986 fifty cent piece
