It's a common misconception that old silver dollars were called "eagles". "Silver eagles" are modern bullion pieces made since 1986 and sold to collectors and investors. $1 silver coins minted up till 1935 were and still are called silver dollars and were minted for spending in ordinary commerce. What is the value of an 1889 one ounce fine US silver dollar?

There's no such coin. An 1889 US silver dollar was minted for spending, not for investment, and was very different from modern "silver eagle" coins that do contain 1 oz. of silver. Morgan dollars contained one dollar's worth of silver, about 0.77 troy ounces at the time. The coins' inscriptions indicate their value (ONE DOLLAR on the back) and not their silver weight.
