Human work is the main reason for existence in Jewish theology. We are taught that the world is broken, and Jews are born into the world in order to repair it. In other words, our reason for being is to make the world a better place through our actions.
This belief is called Tikkun Olam, and is shared by ALL denominations of Judaism.
Living and acting according to God's rules is the foundation of Judaism.
