There weren't any federally-issued silver certificates dated 1917; however both $1 and $2 bills were issued as United States Notes. If that's what you have, please see one of the following questions:
If you have a silver British penny (NOT a plated circulation penny, if it has Britannia on the reverse it is a plated circulation coin and not worth much) that is the Maundy issue (has a 1 in the wreath) you have a fairly collectable coin, I'd say it would be worth anywhere from $5-20 depending on condition. Do not clean your coin, it will only decrease its value.
You need to more specific i.e. What country, What stamp, Mint or Used before any answer could be given, for instance:-
a 1917 1c. Franklin stamp is worth UK 60pence mint and UK 35pence used. The US 5$ 1917 Franklin is work UK £275 mint and £45 used. These are catalogue values and the stamps could be obtained cheaper from deatlers.
if you are asking what the value is: here is my answer. it is work anywhere from $15-$50 from what i have seen. it all depends on the condition
