A dollar in Switzerland is a dollar, same as it is everywhere else. But it is not very useful as it is a foreign currency.

The currency of Switzerland is the Frank (or franc), divided up into 100 Rappen (or centimes).

The American (US) dollar is of very little value in Switzerland. Some large shops and hotels accept the US dollar because they have a lot of tourists from the USA. Otherwise you have to change them at a bank or change office.

As of 2012, the exchange rate for the US dollar is about 90-95 Rappen (100 Rappen = 1 Swiss Frank).
