The W-29 option at first was the 4-4-2 package on the Cutlass. It later signified the 4-4-2 "appearance package" (stripes, decals, etc.)
The 1964 Olds 442 originally stood for 4 barrel carburetor, 4 speed transmission, and dual exhausts, although it changed in 1965 to indicate the 400 V8, 4 barrel carb, and dual exhausts, but the name stuck. It 1964 it had a 330 V8 with 310 h.p. In 1965 Olds installed the 400 V8 with 345 h.p.In 1966 the 400 V8 developed 350 h.p with 4 barrel car and 360 with three 2 barrel carbs which was called the W30 option. In 1968 they installed the 455 V8. The W29 option came out in 1973 and was nothing more than a appearance and handling package. The horsepower was gone for good.
It is the option code (W-29) for the factory installed optional equipment 442 Performance Package.
