Hewlett Packard offers a limited one year warranty on most scanners. Some retailers offer extended warranties that can cover a longer time frame. The HP website offers model specific warranty information.
You can get new fans for your Pavilion. Call HP and ask them to send you one if it's under warranty.

Most HP scanners will be automatically recognised by Mac OS X. Connect the scanner to a USB socket, turn on the scanner and launch the Image Capture application in the Applications folder which should find the scanner. If it is not recognised HP supply a range of drivers and software (See links below).
