A Fender Statocaster typically weighs between 7.5 lbs and 8.5 lbs. Body woods used are ash and alder, with ash being (on average) the heaviest. You want as light of a guitar as possible, so try to get one around 7 lbs (good luck). Regardless of the pros and cons of a light guitar, the light ones are more sought after and will command a premium price.
Some of the heaviest strats were ash in the early 1970's. This was ONE of the factors that started the craze for older strats - a craze that evolved to the vintage reissues and reaching the absurd point we find today of fender charging thousands of dollars to make essentially the same guitar it sells for $1,000 , out of the custom shop (granted there is more hand building going on here, but my point is that this is where the money is - not simply producing them like they used to). If you want it to LOOK old, fender will bake and beat the crap out of it (they call it relic-ing) and charge you hundreds for it - try taking your well used strat to a retail store for trade in and pulling that one!
The average weight of an alder bodied strat is between around 7.25 and 8.75 pounds - lighter and heavier Guitars exist. Ash is heavier than alder, so ash strats are generally heavier, but not generally above 9 pounds.
From what I understand, the Mustang is a superb guitar that is very underrated. You have to consider the music you play and your style of playing, however. If you wanted to save a few dollars, look at the Fender Tornado. The Mustang was discontinued a while back, but the Tornado is pretty much an exact copy of it. I have played it and I thought it was pretty nice. I just didn't like how the neck felt in my hands. Historically, Fender has fairly wide necks whereas I prefer thin, fast necks.
Very easy playing guitar great for beginners, or: worth $250.00
More valuable then a machine made 1959 Les Paul guitar.
The first Fender Stratocaster was designed in 1954 by Leo Fender, George Fullerton, and Freddie Tavares.
There were several models of Fender Tweed Pro amps made in the late 50's and early 60's. They weigh about 55 pounds.
The Fender guitars weighs around 8 pounds. You may find some that weigh a little less or a little more. You won't find them weighing much more or the guitarist wouldn't be able to hold them to play.
About $150.00
