The Intel 8088 is generally considered to be a 16-bit processor (most registers were 16 bit registers), and therefore had a 16-bit word length, although its external data bus was only 8 bits wide.
Microprocessors have internal data pathways and internal registers with a fixed number of bits. An 32 bit processor will process 32 bit words, a 64 bit processor will process 64 bit words. The internal registers are sized to accommodate the word length with a single transfer. Generally, the more bits a processor can handle, the faster it can run. Smaller microprocessors might only process only 8 bits or less. A word length is the data width that can be hold by the microprocessor. The word length is represented in bits. word length is the instruction and other data handled by computers is in the forms of words. a word is a group of bits.
The 8085 is an 8 bit processor, so its word length is 8 bits.
Just Like we express information in words, so do computers. A computer 'word' is a group of bits, the length of which varies from machine to machine, but is normally pre-determined for each machine. The word may be as long as 64 bits or as short as 8 bits.
In 6 bits, -32 = 32 = 1000002
There are no zero-length strings that start with 1 bit or end with 2 bits. In a zero-length string, there are no bits at all.
In natural language, the number of characters comprising the word. In IT the number of bits in the architecture of the processor registers - 8, 16, 32, 64 etc.
Since the term "word" is loosely defined there is no guaranteed method of determining the length of a "word" on a given architecture. This being said, typically the word size of a given architecture is the size in bits of the system's general purpose registers, equivalent to the bit-width of the data bus connected. So given the above the easiest way to determine the word length is to look up the specifications of the processor, but without this information the word length can be determined by loading up your favorite debugger, dumping the registers, and counting the number of bits in the gen. purpose regs.
16 bits
Word length is the number of bits that can be processed at one time.
