The Lockheed YF-12 A a prototype for the SR-71 blackbird is known to have achieved at least 2,275 mph (mach 3.3 at 80,000 feet altitude). It is assumed that the aircraft can (and has) attained higher speeds, but the exact figure is still top secret.

The X-15 has achieved much higher speeds, but since it is rocket powered, is not relevant when discussing the worlds fastest JET aircraft.

There are unconfirmed rumors of faster jet-powered aircraft. The SR-91 Aurora is supposedly capable of speeds in excess of mach 5 using pulse-jet engines, but there has been no official statements made about this aircrafts performance figures, or even its existence.
