I suspect you are thinking of the CN Tower. But the CN Tower is not the world's largest structure, never was, and doesn't even come close. It is tall, very tall, but quite thin. The CN Tower was (but is no longer) the world's tallest free-standing structure.
IN 1999, the portable structure or tent which is called 'Tensile 1' was awarded the 'Worlds Largest Portable Event Venue'. The structure has a surface area of nearly 14,000 square metres or 150,000 square feet in one structure, ie not lots of smaller structures joined together.
