The Y chromosome is the one that carries male genetics. It pairs with the X chromosome that carries female genetics. All males have an XY pair whereas females have an XX pair of chromosomes.
The y chromosome is one variation of the two possible sex chromosomes in humans and other mammals. All people have at least one y chromosome. The difference is that women have two homologous y chromosomes and men have one y chromosome and one smaller x chromosome matched with it. It is commonly thought to code for certain sexual characteristics and developmental traits.
