If it had been originally manufactured as a short barreled shotgun before 1934, the BATF might be a little lenient about "innocent possession", but the 311 was never made with barrels shorter than 28 inches or a pistol grip or before the 1940s. Possession may result in 10 years in a federal penitentiary and a fine up to a quarter million dollars. My suggestion is to disassemble the gun, drop the the barrels in a deep body of water, and throw the grip in a fire. You can sell the receiver and internal parts to a gunsmith for a few dollars.
