This is a misconception. The Chinese word for Zen is Ch'an (禪). The Chinese language is monosyllabical, meaning each word is just one syllable.
There was a very short-lived Chen (陳) dynasty (557-589), but this is an entirely different character though it may sound similar to Western ears.
