I believe that 30 guage is thicker than 23 guage. If you shop around the higher guage PVC is always on the more expensive items such as water trampolines or white water kayaks/boats.
The thickness of metal wire is inversely proportional to the guage number of the metal wire. So 28 guage metal wire is thicker than 30 guage metal wire.
Gauge is the equivalent of a "mil" which is "thousandths" of an inch.Hence, a 20-gauge pool liner would be 20-mil which is 20 thousandths of an inch or 0.020" = 0.02 inches. A 30-gauge liner would be 30-mils or 0.03 inches....Answermost above ground pools are 20 mil and in ground liners are usually 30 mil
In Canada Inground liners are called 30 mil. The standard, much like a 2X4 peice of wood, is cheated to 28 mil but some manufacturers cheat more, 27 mil isn't uncommon and in some cases I've seen 25 mil. In the US most ingorund is sold as 20 mil and is actually 20 with little cheating (from what I know but I'm in Canada) Abovegound is worse. It's called 20 mil, some label the liners with their warenty (at 25 years) but make it sound like that's the thickness. What most liners are is actually a max of 16 mil. It's been a long time since I've seen one thicker then that. A lot of liners are 14 mil, I've seen imported liners as low as 12 mil sold as 20. When trying to compare aboveground liners, the easiest was to compare is to ask the weight of the liner.
Assuming the two are measurements of thickness, it should be obvious that 30 mm is thicker!

PVC piping can be buried as deep as 30 feet. It all depends on what you are doing.
I was in the PVC pipe manufacturing business for over 30 years and have never heard of a "1K PVC" pipe. If "1K" means a 1,000 psi pipe, this does not exist as a commercial product. Sorry.
The proper terminology is "mil" as opposed to guage. The lowest quality liner currently manufactured in the U.S. and Canada is 20mil. When vinyl liner pools are built, nearly all builders intall a 28mil or 30mil liner. For this reason, among others, the original liner should last10-13 years. Replacement liners are usually 20mil and will need to be replaced within 4 to 7 years. When purchasing a replacement liner, follow these points: (1) Insist on a 28mil liner. (2) The pool must be accurately measured by a professional installer. (not a salesman). (3) Don't believe the story about not making liners heavier than 20mils anymore. Replacement liner sales organizations do not want to sell 28mil liners for two reasons: a. It takes two installers to carry and install a 28 mil liner and it usually takes 1 1/2 days instead of 1 day. b. It will be much longer before you need a new one. The additional charge for 28mil in 2008 should be about $800.00. Good luck with your pool.
30# felt is thicker..... Better?
28 is 93.33% of 30.
It is 2+28 = 30
