to get your good reputation up it is very simple, first do the story line (up to the end of the story for non-members) and choose good, or if your like me and don't like to do the hard work :P then goto mobulies (sorry for bad spelling don't have map open) and choose good. Now that your good goto the king in swordhaven (/join swordhaven) and talk to him, click reputation, quests, and do them. There is 1 daily quest that's worth 1000rep for non-members, and 3 non-member regular quests, the rest are member daily quests.

Adventure quest or adventure quest worlds?
Adventure Quest and Adventure Quest Worlds are different in so many ways. AQ is an RPG, AQW is an MMORPG. AQ requires skill, AQW requires money (sadly true). AQW is mainly for people who arent good at other games so they just play AQW. And since there's pretty much no skill involved in AQW, its pretty much just a dress up game. So if you're 6-9 I reccomend AQW. if youre 10-14 I reccomend AQ.
