If it is 4WD it will be on the output housing (rear) of the transfer case. If not 4wd it will be on the output of the transmission. Typically has two wire connector.
It is around 345 hp at the crank and 20% drivetrain loss because of the 4wd so about 300 at the wheels.
A 1987 4-speed ford ranger with over drive is a 4wd and not 2wd.

Depends on it's engine. But the max speed possible with the 4WD [Selectable between 2WD, 4WD/AUTO, and 4WD/LOW] transmission is around 110MpH. It's not recommended to hold that speed, as the transmission will slip and possibly damage it's self.
Depends on the model. I have a 2003 with 90,000 miles. It is FULL TIME 4wd and has the 4.7 v8. I get about 13 in the city and about 16-17 on the highway.
The base model is 2wd. They also made "synchro" models that are 4wd.
