OUTTAKE FROM "COMPLICATIONS OF Liposuction" (The "Complications of Liposuction" is a document that is recognized as "an important document" in the field of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. It was written as a follow-up to the "Guidelines of Care" Liposuction.) Here are out-takes from section 2 and section 4.1.7 of the document: Section 2 Evolution of Liposuction ~ Since the introduction of liposuction techniques in 1982 the management of adipose tissue for aesthetic and reconstructive purposes had undergone a significant change. [3] The introduction of new techniques such as wet, super-wet and tumescent suction assisted liposuction (SAL), [4, 5] as well as the development of new technologies such as power-assisted liposuction (PAL), ultrasound assisted liposuction (UAL) and laser assisted liposuction (LAL), broaden the possibilities within the field. The advent of new techniques and technologies is not free of complications and each of these developments has been associated with a subgroup of problems that should not be overlooked. Care should be taken when using power assisted cannulas and even ultrasonic or laser technologies since the tissue resistance changes making easier the penetration of undesired structures. "Both power assisted and ultrasonic liposuction are designed to make the work of the surgeon easier. Although I helped to develop the most popular powered liposuction instrument, I no longer use this technique. I also abandoned ultrasonic liposuction a long time ago. After 27 years of performing liposuction, I feel I am getting the best results ever using manual liposuction. Using very small instruments, I can definitely sculpt more precisely. And if I have to work harder, it is worth it to give my patients better results." ~ Dr. William Coleman III. When one learns the Biology of fat and understands that any form of adipose removal causes long-term health and contour problems, the question may change from, "What kind should I get?," to "Why would I want to do something that will at best be temporary and cause me so many problems that do not have any solution?"

Does ultrasonic liposuction work?

Yes, Ultrasonic liposuction does work wonders for people with a lot of weight to lose. It is very safe and effective and does not have any serious complications.

What are the long term effects of ultrasonic liposuction?

"Ultrasonic liposuction is a new procedure where an ultrasound is used to help guide in the removal and liquidation of fat cells. It is more efficient at removing the fat(aka adipose tissue) than traditional methods. The problem is that any liposuction can cause dimpling of the skin long after the procedure. The side effects are the same for all liposuction, but no specific long-term studies are found due to this being a fairly new procedure."

Does Laser Liposuction work better than Standard Liposuction?

Great question! The answer is that there is no scientific evidence that laser liposuctionoffers any benefits over standard liposuction. The retraction of the overlying skin has to do with its turgor rather than the instrument used to remove the fat. No matter the modality, (whether laser, vaser, smart liposuction, ultrasonic liposuction) they all produce the same results. Through small incisions a liposuction cannula is inserted and fat cells are gently removed. Liposuction is the ideal procedure for removing small localized areas of fat to create a smooth, contoured physique.

What type of complications can result from ultrasound assisted liposuction?

"In ultrasound-assisted or ultrasonic liposuction there maybe some complications such as :fluid imbalance (too much fluid can affect the heart, lungs and kidneys),allergies to the materials and medications used in the procedure, infection, skin necrosis,or puncture of an internal organ."

How much can non surgical liposuction cost?

Ultrasonic liposuction usual costs anywhere in the region of $2,000 - $5,000. It is the process of removing the fat from the body, but will vary in cost depending on where on the body the procedure is undertaken.

Where do the fat cells go after liposuction.?

Areas of unwanted fat deposits are removed after receiving liposuction. Liposuction operates with a type of wand inserted into the patient. On the ti[ of the wand there are a variety of types of tips that are in place. They can consist of a laser, ultrasonic or water assisted. With the laser the fat is in theory melted. With the ultrasonic the fat is almost shook lose. Lastly the water-assisted jet helps the wand bread the fat-cells apart. In all situations the fat-cells/deposits are sucked into the wand the dealt with. Most patients have their fat disposed of by the Surgeon, but others have had it re-injected to their body. This is one method of natural breast enhancements and buttock injections.

What is ultrasonic cleaning?

Ultrasonic cleaning is cleaning through ultrasonic waves with some chemicals.

What is ultrasound assisted liposuction?

Ultrasonic liposuction uses sound waves to help eliminate excess fatty tissue. Using sound waves is much less invasive than more traditional methods. This means the procedure is a lot safer for the patient. The sound waves specifically target fat and do not damage other tissues and muscular areas as much. The success rates are satisfactory.
