It depends on the model - and what you mean by memory card. SODIMM's are usually inserted via a removable hatch on the base of the laptop.
Memory card encryption is used to translate data that is input on the card into a secret code. Once the data is encrypted, it can only be accessed through using a secret password.
If you mean an SD card adapter, you put it in a USB slot, then simply plug the SD card into the adapter. If it is some other memory card (for a gaming console) then an adapter is most likely USB compatible.
