I think you mean 'uniformitarianism'. According to the principle of uniformitarianism, the observable features of the world were produced by processes that are still observable today.

For example, mountains were formed, not by a miracle or a catastrophe, but by the ordinary (very slow) geological processes of plate tectonics, which we can observe in the present.
