Because it is The Word of God.

Answer

The above answer, though correct, needs a little elaboration!

The Bible consists of 66 books, all written by different authors including shepherds, tent makers, doctors, fishermen and even kings. It is a truly cosmopolitan mixture of different literary forms from poetry, history, prophesy, fiction, letters and so on. Yet, though these books were written thousands of years apart, independently of each other, by authors who had never met, and in different locations, they all have an underlying inspirational feel - that they are really inspired by God because of the divine theme running through each and every book.

Therefore, because of the nature of this theme, the book remains as relevant today as the first books in the Bible to be written did, some 3-4000 years ago. Although the books were written about people that were alive thousands of years ago, they still faced the same problems of broken relationships, greed, poverty, materialism, oppression, and so on that we still face today in the world. And because of the divine thread running through scripture, people today still find comfort and hope in reading what God has to say about these problems so that the Bible continues to be such a relevant document today.

There have been thousands of ancient books that have long since disappeared except for a few copies kept in dusty university libraries. But the Bible is still printed and printed and printed today. No book, or collection of books, since humanity walked this earth, has changed lives so much as the Bible. No book has sold so many copies or had so many copies printed - ever. No book except the messages of the Bible, has caused whole totalitarian regimes to fall in favour of democracy. And no book has caused such alarm in evil totalitarian states that it has been banned on pain of death - and yet others risk lives to smuggle them in on a daily basis even today.

In fact, no book, ever, and that includes other religious writings like the Koran, has had such an influence on humanity as the Bible. Surely that makes it not just a masterpiece, but the greatest masterpiece of writing ever to be seen on this planet.

The bible is special and unique because if you believe in the One who saved us and read the bible, you will be SAVED! Normal books are basically impossible to save you.

ANOTHER ANSWER:

Most people aren't aware that America's founding fathers, in the Declaration of Independence, cited God, the "Inspirational Author of the Bible" [II Tim.3:16], as mankind's Endowment Source of "Life, Liberty [Freedom], and the Pursuit of Happiness." (Not just happiness itself... but the pursuit of it. As some say, 'Half the fun is getting there.']

The Bible is unique in this regard, to contain the Divine Knowledge and Understanding of the way man might obtain these three precious "unalienable rights"... just by "believing" and "obeying" [unfortunately many folks leave out the obeying part] the Words recorded in God's Instruction Manual for His manufactured product, man. The Bible is God's "Owner's Manual [available in book stores everywhere] for the Physical and Spiritual Maintenance and Upkeep of Mankind."

It even contains a healthy dietary regimen... for both the physical and spiritual aspects of man's unique station in life, which God gave to him above all the other creatures on earth. It lists man's source of nourishment for the body and the mind -- BREAD!

The bread you bake to sustain your body... and the Bread of Life, the LORD Jesus Christ, Himself, as well as His 'written Word," the Bible.

"...'It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word of God." (Luke 4:4)

"You are searching the Scriptures because you suppose that in them you have Eternal Life; and though these are they that bear witness CONCERNING ME, you will not come TO ME that you may have Life." (John 5:39-40 MNT Montgomery New Testament)

The Bible isn't the Source of Life... but it uniquely directs a Faithful, Believing, Trusting reader to the ONE who is its Source.

"The [Holy] Spirit is what gives Life; the flesh is of no avail. The WORDS I HAVE BEEN SPEAKING TO YOU [that are recorded in the Bible], are SPIRIT and are LIFE. Yet there are some of you who do not believe... This is why I told you that no one can come to Me unless it be given him from the Father." (John 6:63-65 MNT)

In man's generations-long pursuit of that elusive entity called "Truth" since Adam and Eve first chose not to believe their Creator's "verbal" instructions in the beginning: the Holy Book's Author, Jesus Christ, reveals that the Bible is, uniquely, the Source of TRUTH, also. It contains the Unique Truth of God, that, for those who place their Faith and Trust in it; sets them apart from everyone else in the world -- a spiritual condition called "sanctification" = "set apart from others for God's Holy use or purpose.":

"Sanctify them through Thy Truth: THY WORD IS TRUTH." (John 17:17 KJV)

But the real uniqueness of the Bible is yet to be revealed on the Last Great Day, Judgment Day, of God's plan of Salvation for His unique creation, man. When all the resurrected generations of mankind will physically stand before their Creator... who will "open the books of the Bible" to "measure their life's works" against the Truth of them:

"...I saw the dead... standing before the throne; and books were opened, and another book -- the Book of Life -- was opened; and the dead were Judged according to their deeds, by what was written in the books." (Rev.20:12 MNT)

Practically no one realizes or understands that the "opened books" on Judgment Day [that will Judge the whole world] will be THE BOOKS OF THE BIBLE; the Divinely-inspired and recorded WORDS and BREAD of Jesus Christ:

"He who rejects Me, and does not believe MY WORDS, has indeed a Judge. THE MESSAGE WHICH I HAVE SPOKEN [and recorded in the Bible; emphasis, mine], THAT shall Judge him in the Last Day, because I have never spoken on My own Authority, but the Father Himself who sent Me gave Me Commandment what to say and what (words) to speak. And I know that His Commandment is Eternal Life. So whatever I speak, I speak as the Father has told Me." (John 12:48-50 MNT)

The Bible is the most unique book(s) of all time -- and so few of mankind who have lived and died realize it. Mainly, because it was recorded and written down for us in the last generations [Acts 7:38], to know what the earlier generations of mankind only knew, verbally:

"Then Abimelech [a Gentile king in Abraham's day] called Abraham, and said unto him, 'What hast thou done unto us? And what have I offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a GREAT SIN? ..." (Gen.20:9 KJV)

God's Laws and "sin" [disobedience to God's Commandments - I John 3:4] was known from the moment Adam and Eve broke them; choosing "another god to worship" instead of their Creator.

This only touches on the Bible's true uniqueness. And mankind won't begin to know or understand just how unique it is until he finds his collective self standing before his Creator at the Last Day, being Judged by the Words written in its inspired books... and everyone seeing how their life's works measure up to God's expectations, obedience to His Commandments, and their Righteous [or unrighteous] Character development for the Children of His future Family:

"Ye are My friends [, mankind] if you do what I Command you... This is My Commandment: TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER." (John 15:14-17 MNT)

What a unique biblical concept it is in a faithless, unbelieving world: LOVE, instead of hatred, envy, jealousy, lust and greed.

The uniqueness of the Holy Scripture, though some will disagree, is that the Bible itself claims to be divinely inspired or "God-breathed" (see 1 Corinthians 2:12-13 and 2 Timothy 3:16-17). Many believe that God divinely influenced human writers/authors of the Scriptures in His way making them His very words. It is referred to at times as 'mankind's instruction manual' in that it contains all necessary information for any diligent and desirous individual to find salvation.
