A hydrometer can be used to find the specific gravity (relative density) of a liquid by determining how much water it will displace. Various calibrations are used for different kinds of liquids.
You cannot find density without volume. Density = mass/volume
In the metric system, kilograms per cubic meter (kg/m3) are used to find density, though other units, such as pounds per cubic foot are also used. For a complete list of units used to find density, visit the Related Link.
Density's formula is M/V, or mass divided by volume, so if what you mean is do you always need a balance to find density, no because you could use a scale. If that's what your asking.
yeah I'm pretty sure you could use a triple beam to find density you would just have to put whatever you're measuring on the beam then find the mass and volume then do mass divided by volume that's how you find density it doesn't matter what type of beam you have just as long as it's balanced. =)

The answer is.....Temperature Gradient
The study of earths layer and the artifacts found in them is called archeology. Archeology is used to find out about past organisms.
The technology used to find out the different layers of the earth is referred to as sonar technology. This is the method that geologists use to find details about the layers of the earth.
These vibrations change speeds and directions when they go into different layers of the Earth.
Hydrometer is used in batteries to measure density. A float tells you the density using displacement.
A density gradient is a tube filled with layers of two liquids mixed in varying proportions so that each layer has a different density. It is used by forensic scientists for soil characterization,
Find the mass of a known volume of the liquid and use the formula mass/volume to find the density.

Density can be used to determine buoyancy. To find out of something will float or sink, density is a good way to make a prediction.
