a problem with the throttle potentiometer
On a 1990 thru 1994 XJ6 it means the Idle Speed Control Valve (coil 2) has an open or short circuit
In 1990-1994 XJ6 the VCM Code 44 is the code for the O2 sensor, either rich or lean exhaust has been detected and is causing the code to trigger. It could indicate a bad O2 sensor.
go to google and type in jaguar xj6 vcm codes. there will be a link that tells you how to reset the vcm.. Short and simple.. remove pass. kick panel (7) screws find a red connector with a single pink lead and turn key on.. Do not start.. ground out red connector for 3 sec. then turn key off for 10 sec. remove ground and your code should be cleared..
I own a 91' XJ6 also and i believe when that code comes up it is as simple as your gas cap not being on all the way
Evaporative canister purge control valve circuit fault
Code fuel 1 would indicate Oxygen sensor. A good information source is the Haynes Manual Jaguar XJ6 1988-94. Good luck.
