What does BIL basic insulator level really mean and its differences with Impulse withstand voltage and power frequency withstand voltage?

BIL is basic insulation level as per you or in other words it would be "basic impulse level" which implies the limit up to which an insulator could withstand impulse due to lightning strikes. Impulse is generated on the insulation due to the high voltage surges and spikes due to lightning strikes. BIL is generally much higher as compared to power frequency withstand voltage. In other words BIL is lightning Impulse withstand voltage. Impulse withstand voltage is the voltage that is generated due to switching operation and it's much higher than power frequency withstand, but BIL or the lightning withstand voltage is a the voltage level that an insulation can withstand during surge or lightning strikes.

What is ceiling voltage in exciter?

ceiling voltage is the maximum field voltage that the exciter can withstand before going into unstability

What is insulation coordination?

Lightning impulse withstand voltage

What is the meaning of rated lightning impulse withstand voltage?

That is the voltage rating the product can stand up to. If the lightning withstand voltage was 100,000,000V, that means the item could get struck by lightning that is up to 100,000,000V without damaging it.

What is the meaning of rated power frequency withstand voltage?

The r.m.s of sinusoidal power frequency voltage that the equipment can withstand during tests under specified conditions and for a specified time

What is power frequency withstand voltage test?

A test done on a transformer. The voltage at the power frequency is ramped up to verify the transformer is capable of handling the stresses due to switching and natural phenomena (lighting strikes).Withstand Voltage:The voltage which has to be applied to a test object under specified conditions in a "withstand test" is called the "withstand voltage".

What is power frequency withstand voltage?

Withstand Voltage : The voltage which has to be applied to a test object under specified conditions in a withstand test is called the withstand voltage ( as per IS:731 and IS: 2099-19631 ) unfortunately i don't know the name of the book, I just know " page 405 , chapter 10 , High-voltage testing of electrical apparatus " the book name is HIGH VOLTAGE ENGINEERING (2nd edition ) by Naidu, Kamaraju

Define rated impulse voltage?

Simply, the voltage which is withstand by the test object as an impulse is called as rated impulse voltage.

What is voltage grade of cable?

Voltage Grade of cables specifies the safe voltages which the insulation of the cable can withstand.

What does 220 voltage wire means?

the meaning of 210 volt wire is that it can withstand under 210 voltage conditions.the physical properties or condition of the wire is such that it can withstand 210 voltage.we use it upto 210 volts.

Why is voltage rating of a capacitor important to the user?

The voltage rating of a capacitor tells the user how much voltage the capacitor can withstand. If a user exceeds this voltage, the capacitor's dielectric may be damaged and destroyed.

What is the importance of peak inverse voltage?

Peak inverse voltage of a device like diode gives the maximum value of voltage that it can withstand without being damaged when it is reverse biased.
