It lasted from September 1939 to September 1945. There were two alliances: the Allies and the Axis Powers. The allies: Great Britain, France, Russia, and later the USA (+ many other countries from all over the world). The Axis Powers were: Germany, Italy and they had an an agreement with Japan (Anti-Comintern Pact).

Germany was led by adolf hitler, who wanted to expand German influence all around Europe, and wanted to have a share in the colonisation of Africa. The war was triggered by the treaty having been concluded after the First World War, which humiliated Germany.
