Depending on which model of the PlayStation 2 you have, there are two ways of turning on your system. If you have the original (fat) PlayStation 2 (SCPH-10000 to SCPH-50000), you must turn on the power supply switch at the back of the unit, next to the power cord terminal. The power button on the front of the system should now be lit in amber. Press the power button to turn on the PlayStation 2 system. If you have a slim PlayStation 2 (SCPH-70000 to SCPH-90000), there is simply a power button at the edge of the front of the unit. When the system is turned off, it should be amber. To turn it on, press it until the light becomes green.
You can also you the Playstation symbol on the controller to get a screen with the option of system shutdown

If it is a printer/scanner/etc then it is a confirm button. When i print something here it asks on the printer "Are you sure you want to print?" and i hit the green button to confirm i wanted to print that.
Try the following to reset your canon i550. Turn off printer. Hold down resume button, press power button. Keep holding down power button, release resume button. Press resume button twice, then release both buttons. Green lights should flash. When green lights are stead, press the resume button four times. Press the power button once to turn the printer off. (If it doesn't turn off, press the power button again.) Your printer should now, hopefully, start up normally.
If the power light is green, the console is already on.If the power light is red or yellow, try using the power button on the console(as opposed to the power button on the remote). If the power light is black, the power might be out, it might be switched off at the mains, or it might not be plugged in properly.
If its a ps3 then firstly try to press the PS button on your controller. If that works then turn off the system that way. If not, try holding down the power button on your ps3. If this doesn't work then switch it off at the back of the console.
You hold the power button down until the green light next to it stops flashing.
