It doesn't go far enough. It should have a public option.

Conservatives have two arguments against a public plan: it'll compete with private-sector insurance, and the government can't run a healthcare plan. The second one first because it's the biggest lie. The government has NO problem running a healthcare plan called Medicare. I believe Medicare could be expanded to cover everyone at a not-outrageous price. The government also runs a healthcare program for the troops that works really well. There's also no reason why the government couldn't find people who know how to run healthcare plans, and hire them.

The other one isn't a lie: the plan will compete with the private sector. That's the point. If the government's plan can give good service at a good price, people will sign up for it. The private sector would then have to improve their plans to compete with it.
