X-Rays were discovered by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen on November 8, 1895. While working with cathode rays, Roentgen noticed a barium plantinocyanide screen glowing in his laboratory. He activated the Crookes tube in complete darkness with the tube covered and noticed the screens continued to glow. These unknown rays that caused screens to glow were called x-rays. He placed different materials, including his wife's hand, in the path of the x-rays and noticed that some objects were easily penetrated and others were not.
