Our body is made up of microscopic living matter calledcells. Cells are the basic unit of life and every living thing is made up of cells. Cells make up every part of our body including the internal organs (see flow chart below). Our body loses a billion cells every second and manufactures new cells too. There are many different types of cells in our body and they have different functions according to their location, shape etc. (e.g. nerve cells, muscle cells). Cells are essential for living matter because they are basic units of life.
Cells have a nucleus which controls the cell, a cytoplasm, cell membrane, chromosomes etc.
