Islam believes in the just and equitable distribution of national wealth. To remove poverty from the society, the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) introduced the system of Zakat, so that the poor and the needy might have a share in the national wealth.Every one paid the fortieth part of his assets into the "Bait-ul-mal" (the treasury). This wealth was spent on the propagation of islam, on administration, and on looking after the poor and the needy.
It is called "Zakat ul Fitr" and is payed by the family responsible on each living person he is responsible for including wifem children, servants, .... etc. It should be paid before the sunrise of the first day after end of the Month of Ramadan and before the Eid Ul Fitr praying..
You pay:'Zakat Alfitr' any time in Ramadan or after Ramadan but before the feast praying 'salat al eid' or before sunrise of the first day after end of the month of Ramadan.'Zakat al Mal' on the money that you have above certain minimum (value of 83 grams of Gold) that remain for one Hijra Islamic year and you pay on completion of this year. To make life easier in the calculation and payment of Zakat Al Mal, it is recommended to fix a certain Hijra month, as Ramadan for example, and on this month you calculate or your savings as of this month. Then you estimate the due Zakat amount as at least 2.5 % of this saving and then you pay them through this month.
Salam, Al hamodullah I give directly to them, as we then know the money where it is going. 2.5% of your income after deductions to the masjed. Zakat Al Mal 10 dollars per person for Ramadan Zakat - Zakat Al Fitr Anything else is sudica (charity). We give if we can, if we are in debt then we need to get out of that and back above zero. Its hard in today's world not to accept credit so may Allah help those who are in debt inshAllah amin. Peace Ankaboot
