The roles of the women were to take care of the house, the children, and the husband. The man owned the woman, and therefore the woman was under the control of the man. Even girls had to learn how to take are of the household at an early age.
To add on to that...
The women would teach the girls how to become a good mother and wife when the time came. They would also make sure that the home was peaceful and organized when the father/husband came home from work. Women took care of the house hold. They cooked, sewed, knitted, weaved, milked the cows and took care of the children.
During the 1800s, the role of women began to change drastically. During the Industrial Revolution, women began to uphold jobs that previously only men could. Women workers were especially common in the textile industry and in such as Lowell Mills, where they were provided boarding. This was the start of the Lowell System, and many rural women moved to cities to participate in this system. Women were also living healthier and longer lives, due to a decreased mortality in childbirth, allowing them more freedom to do as they please. Women like Dorothea Dix became very involved in society, creating movements like the Asylum Movement, and participating in movements like the Abolition and Temperence Movements. At the Seneca Falls convention, a group of women even created a document for women suffrage almost idential to the Declaration of Independence, and named the document the Declaration of Sentiments. Mary Lyon was a woman that sought education for women and founded Mount Holyoke College, which was the first college for women. So no, men did not "own women" at this time and women were not "under the control of the man." In fact, the role of women was drastically different and not nearly as morbid.
most stayed home did the house work, raised the children, also during the gold rush if they went down there, there were very few women so the were very usefull and opened store to cook for the miners, and make clothes.
They might of cleaned and serve, or either be a nurse or teacher. I wouldn't think women would've build things or be a captain of a ship. My information is in Australian history so if you are trying to find jobs in other countries sorry.
US They worked in textile mills, and other factories.
they was a wife to the husband and looked after the kids
In the 1800s, women did not have many jobs. Women were shopkeepers, teachers, or just stay at home wives.
Men were typically off fighting wars or working while the women, would be at the house, fixing it up, and raising the children.
In the early 1800s the industrial revolution began to change the economic roles of men and women
They cleaned the house, took care of the children, and cook diner.
