Priests usually worked in churches in villages, town, or cities. They tended to the spiritual well being of the people in the congregations of the churches. They baptized, said mass, gave religious instruction, performed unction, and said prayers for people as needed. They consoled people in distress, and performed works of charity where they could. They could have been called on to do other things, including write letters or other documents for people who were illiterate.
They served as parish priests at local churches serving Mass, they were teachers, counselors, advisors to their bishop, missionaries to different countries around the world, authors, etc. Generally all priests during this time and not only limited to England performed these duties as they still do to this day, although a big difference is that back then in Medieval Times the clergy were held to high regard and bishops were considered to be considered part of the nobility even if they did follow a vow of poverty; today it is not like that.
There was the main priest and a few minor ones. Plus the nuns.
