Tower Bridge in London is probably the most famous and distinctive bridge in the whole of the UK, not just in London. However, foreigners very often call Tower Bridge, London Bridge. London Bridge is just a very ordinary bridge and has no particular merits. Look up Tower Bridge and you will see what I mean!
Yes, because it can be raised by drawing it up.
Tower Bridge - the nearest to the sea and the entrance to the Pool of London
The bridge separates in the middle and lifts up to let the ship through.
The London bridge is 456ft tall (about 1000 elephants stacked up).
Its a little over 2 miles by foot, its a pretty little walk up the Thames where you can pass St. Paul's, Hay Galleria, London Eye, Tate Modern, Hay Galleria, HMS Belfast, The shard, London bridge and Tower bridge. BY underground it is easy to get to simply take underground station Waterloo. :)
The Colosseum, by a very long way. Construction on the Colosseum started in 70-72 A.D. The London Bridge opened in 1973 You may be thinking, "what?", if this date is not even close. I might know why: Either you have your times way mixed up and you are thinking of the Tower Bridge which opened in 1894, which is often mixed up with the London Bridge, or the London Bridge might be older BECAUSE the original bridge on the spot of the current London Bridge was built on the year 50 A.D.
Either the traditional London Bridge-now transplanted to Arizona(!) or the Tower Bridge, popularily called the London Bridge- as it is in London, this may have inspired the folk song. However the bridge isn"t falling down, it is literally folding up as it is a twin leaf bascule structure. when folded up- ships can pass but pedestrtian traffic is halted. Either span would answer the question.
It was never intended to have an actual function, just to be something spectacular (tallest building in the world) for the gateway to the 1889 International Exhibition. It should have been demolished, but was saved by the invention of radio and now functions as a TV and communications tower as well as a tourist attraction.
The Tower of London is on the North bank of the River Thames, in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
The tower of London is quite tall above the water below. It has lots of windows on each side of the towers. There is two towers, one for each side of the bridge to lift up for the boats passing by. It looks slightly christian because of the four crosses on the top of the towers. The top of the tower looks a bit like a castle because of the points on it. And finally it has two English flags in the middle of both towers, spread apart equaly. So that's what the London bridge looks like, from describing it!
Yes and no, London bridge is in London and there has been a bidge on the site for 2,000 years. The current one was opened in 1973. However the previous one which was in place from 1831 to 1968 is in Lake Havasu Arizona! An urban myth that the Amercian entreprenur thought he was buying the Tower bridge has been denied by all parties in the sale. This bridge replaced the much older bridge which stood in pace for 600 years so it's not the original one. The bridge was sold to Robert McCulloch who dismatled it and rebuilt it in a town in Arizona. The townspeople were very disappointed though as they thought they were getting Tower bridge - the bridge that opens up to let ships through. London bridge is a conventional bridge and much less iconic of London to tourists than the 1894 Tower Bridge which is still mistakenly refered to by many tourists as London Bridge.
