The system of checks and balances are used by Government to keep one of the three sectors of government from gaining too much power. This keeps the branches from dominating over the others.
In the United States, the Great Seal is kept and used by the Department of State. It is used on official documents to authenticate the signature of the President and other high-level government officials.
It helps the United States government's individual branches from having one branch more powerful than the other branch, making for a biased government. The system of checks and balances keeps the government's branches from becoming biased or one branch completely taking over the other two.
United States Supreme Court Justice. Justices may serve for the remainder of their lives, although they can voluntarily resign or retire. A justice can also be removed by Congressional impeachment and conviction.
